Crawley Town striker Danilo Orsi has revealed the squad held frank talks during the recent international break as they try to arrest a poor start to the League Two season. The 30-year-old forward said players and staff put in "some real work" over the enforced two-week pause, which saw games against Barnet and Walsall postponed.

Orsi, who scored 25 goals in the club's promotion-winning campaign, said the period was used to address issues after a run of results that has left Crawley Town bottom of the table. The team have taken just four points from their first seven games, with their last five results reading as four defeats and a draw. Their most recent outing was a 4-1 loss at Milton Keynes Dons on September 22, where Nathan Tinsdale scored a late consolation.

Orsi's personal form

The striker has started the last three league games and is satisfied with his own contributions to a point. He scored and provided an assist in his first three starts and won a penalty at York. Orsi said. He hopes his goals and assists will soon translate into points to help the team climb from 24th place.

Work during the break

Manager Colin Kazim-Richards oversaw the sessions, with the squad only getting one weekend off. "It's been a period where we've got some real work in and had a few honest meetings," Orsi said. The aim was to iron out problems identified by both the coaching staff and the players themselves. Orsi acknowledged there had been unrest among some supporters calling for changes before the break. He urged them to get behind the team for the upcoming home game.

Call for support

Orsi, who previously played for Grimsby Town and Burton Albion, said he understands the fans' perspective. "I grew up being a football fan and I've probably been in their shoes a few times supporting my club," he said. He believes the supporters can be the "extra man" for the team, especially in a tough match against a Chesterfield side sitting eighth in the table. The Spireites visit Broadfield Stadium on Tuesday night for a league encounter. Check the latest standings to see how the table looks.

Crawley Town return to action tonight in the Jersey Mikes Trophy against Bromley, before focusing fully on the Chesterfield clash. Orsi said the team knows they need to put in a performance to get a positive result and begin moving up from the foot of the division. The club's current squad details are available online.
